“Worship riffs, spliffs, and flip tricks.” Having met the rowdy riffers from Portland, Oregon, at a Doomed & Stoned Presents show at World Famous Kenton Club, I can attest that the attitude is woven into the fabric of every song they write and perform. LáGoon strikes me as kind of an odd duck, with the head of The Stooges, the fuzzed up body of Dead Moon, the feet of The Gun Club, the soul of Electric Wizard and the guts of Nirvana…with a skateboard under wing. However you pitch it, this is nasty, nasty business.
It’s exactly this sort of strangeness the scene needs as our hunger for heavy music of the slow ‘n’ low variety continues to loom large. Here is a band that will take your appetite and then gobble you up before it’s all said and done. LáGoon is steadily garnering a cult following, with a few records – last year’s L’affaire des Poisons and Grim Ripper – already notched on the belt."
